Plastics and their impacts on South Florida: Using data collected from months of research and multiple Nonprofit organizations
Hello everyone, we are the Green Campus Initiative, a student group from Florida International University that is focused on making our campus a more sustainable institution. This year, we have decided to focus on the issues of single use plastics.
At the state level, we are working to either enable a statewide ban on unnecessary single-use plastics or to lift the preemption that currently prevents counties and municipalities from restricting sale or distribution of single use plastics. we have completed an 8 month research project on the economic, ecological and health consequences of single use plastics.
GCI believes a sustainable future is not only possible, but necessary, and action must be taken to reduce the consumption of single use plastics. We strive to make Florida International University a leader in this effort.
